Part II
NEW YORK: “Concrete jungle where dreams are made of”
Everyone has their own New York. In my humble opinion thats what makes the city so particular. There are endless opportunities for all ages, gender, tastes and interests.
With that in my mind its impossible to guide you through the Big Apple. What I can do however is to give you a snapshot of my New York... Hope you will enjoy the world through my lenses...
• For some jazz: Blue Note
• For touristic restaurants:
o Spice Market

• For the best cupcakes in town: Magnolia Bakery. Please go the store in SoHo. The Uptown store smells too much like a franchise, nothing like the original.
• For some cakes: Serendipidity
• For the best granola: Extra Virgin
• For a lazy Sunday Brunch: Pastis
• Any season, any time:Central Park
• For the interesting fashion finds, buttons, crafts, laces...: Garment District
• For the best Italian in two: Lupa
• For a little twinkle before Christmas: Lights of the New York Palace Hotel
• For a rustic lunch getaway: Chelsea Market
• For a drink? Gansevoort Hotel Rooftop
• For hanging out with friends: DOMA Cafe and Felix.
• For some Mediterranean tastebud: Fig and Olive
• For the best sushi in town: Tomoe Sushi.
• For some great coffee: Puerto Rico Importing Co.
Museums and Galleries:
• International Centre for Photography : Cuba in Revolution exhibition was very interesting especially if you are into that period. Some great pictures of Che, including the photo that later made him iconic called “Guerrillero Heroico” (English: "Heroic Guerrilla") taken by Alberto Korda. (1133 6th and 43rd)
• Frick Collection is a small art collection with focus on European paintings and art. However, my favourite spot in this museum is actually the court and the tinkling sound of the pool at the middle, a special recognition to my aunt Sedef who has shared this hidden spot with me, where you momentarily drift away from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan (1 East 70th Street).
• Guggenheim, MOMA (11West 53rd Street) are also on the list of musts for art lovers.
• The Metropolitian Museum of Art (5th and 82nd St) has got some great exhibitions as well. Of course the permanent collection can be visited relentlessly as it includes some of my highlights from Degas, Rodin, etc ... but the recently exhibited “The Roman Mosaic from Lod”, Israel that is on site until 3rd April 2011 at the Greek and Roman galleries is a must see. • Some galleries/exhibitions downtown that may be of interest:
o Chris Caccamise (11 Rivington St),
o Will Rogan (261 Broome St)
o Roger White (47 Orchard Street)
Of course there are the landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building,St Marks Place, SoHo, UN Building, FlatIron building ... the list is endless. But you can find these in any odd guide. I tried to share something a bit more personal. Please feel free to share your New York as well...
